The Official 3rd Floor Cooler
OH MY GOD MY ROOM IS SO COLD
So guess what everyone? The heat in my room stopped working a day and a half ago! Go us! Yeah, on Friday, my roommates and I went over and watched like five hours worth of movies in our friend's room, and then came back that night to find out that our heat wasn't exactly working in any way shape or form. We put in a work order yesterday night, but I don't think maintenance works on Sundays. It's kid of uber-depressing. Like, so much. I DO NOT like sitting in the cold in my own room. Our hallway is warmer than my room, that is how depressingly cold it is. We all split up last night, and my one roommate went to sleep on her boyfriend's couch, while we, the boyfriend-less ones went to sleep on our RA's couch. Our oven is currently on and the door to the hallway is open so that it can hopefully warm up the room a little bit.
Tea is my new remedy- I have had so much of it in the past couple days.
But enough complaining for now.
Alright, so, it's rush right now for all of the greek orgs on campus, of which I am a part of. My roommates are a part of a sorority on campus, Delta Phi Epsilon (the Deephers). We're now entering the second week of our rush, and last night we went out to our second party of the year. That's right, our SECOND PARTY. As you can tell, we're real partiers around here. We happen to feel that it is our obligation to make an appearance at at least one party a year. So basically, we showed up, stood around awkwardly for a while, went and watched some beer pong (did not actually play, any of us). We commented on how strange the bed downstairs was (it was outside of the beer pong room) (and actually very strange feeling). And that was our second party of the year. It was actually kind of boring, especially compared to the first one that we went to, quiet and kind of lame. I am of the opinion that staying in and watching movies (especially Disney movies) with my roommates is exponentially more fun than going out and partying. (Trust me, it is). The one very nice about thing about going to the party was that it was in fact warm there at least.
So that leaves us sitting here in the cold, waiting to either magically warm up or for them to come and fix the heat tomorrow. That's life in 314. Granted, our room has always had mishaps, ever since moving in. We did just get a new garbage disposal because ours has been so mishap-y since we moved in, spitting water back up at us and clogging up. It's been a continual struggle with that, and we have a hole next to our toilet. That one is rather strange, because there's a board that's cut right next to the toilet, that totally covers up more of a hole, so why didn't they just cover the rest of it up? The door to my bedroom sticks, and we have to make sure that the door to the room room closes right, otherwise it won't actually close all the way.
So survival tips from college kids without heat (from my roommates and I):
1. Put boiling water in a jar and you can put it by your heat to warm it up.
2. And while you do it, sit on your socks to warm them up for when you have to be on the move.
3. Wear finger-less gloves so that way you can have warm hands even while you type.
4. Make a blanket cuddle party on a couch with other people to share warmth.
5. Use an oven as a heater.
6. Make things in the oven so that you can use it to warm things up.
7. Warm showers make everything better. It is a fact of life.
8. LAYERS
And that's all for now folks. I'll let you know more as the situation develops further (and if we all freeze). Bye for now!
