Giving Up
There are a lot of things that you can give up in life, some good and some bad. During Lent I tried to give up having as many negative thoughts and actions towards others, tried to make myself a better person. And it worked a little (I think, I hope others thought I was nicer).
Either way, I have a new thing to give up: what others think of me. Personal appearance wise, and sometimes in what I say and do.
I don't always stay true to what and who I want to be, and I kind of hate that about myself. I also don't like the fact that I let what other people might think rule my decisions, whether it's when I'm picking out clothes before class, or deciding to shave my legs, or whether or not I want to wear makeup that day.
I have fun clothes that I love wearing, but they're not exactly fashionable right now. I wear them anyway because I feel invincible wearing them, but at the same time, self-conscious.
And so I've decided to do my own thing. It may seem like something that's obvious to do, but not really. It can be hard to decide to not let people's potential opinions influence you, but when I go out in my hippie skirt, legs un-shaved for over a week, no makeup, and I'm riding my bike, I feel great. Or if I decide to wear my huge sweater to class that maybe makes me look lumpy, but is beyond comfortable. I am invincible in that moment, and it feels great.
So go out and do something daring! That is my challenge to you, do do something fun, that maybe you've been wanting to and just haven't yet, something along those lines. Live your life to the fullest!
