Darkness
It can be found in many places.
Darkness is a secret-keeper. Perhaps the biggest of them all. People do and say things in the dark, things that may not always happen in the light.
You can hide in the dark. It will wrap you up and hold you, and let you hide away from the rest of the world for a little while, as long as you need.
It can be found in a car at night, when everything seems so much more subdued. No matter how much noise you make, and how many people are with you, a car is always much quiter in the dark. All there is are the lights of the dash and muffled noises. It is a certain type of peace.
Not everyone finds the darkness comforting. Demons and beasts lurk in the dark, many different kinds of them. Even I fear these demons at times. However, I also find solace in the darkness. I can be whomever I want. In the darkness I can open myself up to allow the possibility of a connection with another person.
There is a beauty as well there. In the velvety darkness outside there are stars, each beautiful and lighting the night sky.
In the darkness I am set free.
